Bulbous Tall Oatgrass

Its characteristic tall clumps standing above other still dormant grass varieties help to identify this cool-season, perennial grass.
This image was taken in the early spring when new growth was emerging, but by early summer, when other grasses were in full growth, it had gone dormant for the season.
Found throughout the south-eastern United States, this plant was growing on disturbed land at the edge of a pasture.

The common name and the complete botanical name, (Arrhenatherum elatius) var. bulbosa , both refer to corms that form on the root system.
