Sulphur Cinquefoil
Appearing in mid-summer in the Shenandoah Valley, this wildflower favors a dry habitat in a sunny field. I consider it one of the prettiest of the yellow-blossomed plants, because of its soft, understated coloring. It makes the Buttercup seem brassy in comparison! The common name suffix, Cinquefoil is French in origin for "five-leaved."
