Virginia Rose

A native perennial, also known as Wild Rose and Pasture Rose, this low-growing sub-shrub is found along fence lines and thickets in the Shenandoah Valley.
Its branches are partly woody; new green growth is killed back in the winter, limiting its overall growth.
The pink blossoms lie flat, which, one morning in May, provided a convenient ambuscade for another denizen of this shady thicket.

Sometimes while taking a particular image, I am surprised to find that there was more to be seen than I had realized when I snapped the shutter.
The right petal of this rose blossom has a Crab Spider waiting patiently for some prey to drop by for some of the sweet nectar offered by this lily.
